I was given a coin a few months ago that I have been kind of wondering about. Internet searches gave me nothing so I'll describe it to y'all. It has John Tyler's portrait on the front with his name above it, his presidency (1841-1845) on its left, and the date (2000) on the bottom. The reverse has the standard Kennedy Half-Dollar reverse design except it says REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA across the top and FIVE DOLLARS cross the bottom. It also has the S mintmark on the obverse below the neck. I was wondering if this has any value other than five dolllars (if its even worth that) and what its composition is. I'm thinking copper nickel.
    Thanks
    Tyler

I assume your coin is like this one?

If I remember correctly, there are made by the Pobjoy mint:

I've never been to Liberia, but I've been to Sierra Leone (next to Liberia) and the pobjoy mint does coins for Sierra Leone too. I can tell you that they definitely are not a circulating currency in Sierra Leone.

I doubt that any of the coins even get to Liberia.

Basically, they are worth whatever a seller is willing to pay.

FWIW, $5 Liberian equals 7.2 US cents as of this writing.
