I'll be getting a couple of each, these will sell out rather quickly, but then again I thought the Franklins would a few years back.

The BSA is a constituent member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. The traditional Scouting divisions are Cub Scouting for boys ages 5 to 11½ years, Boy Scouting for boys ages 10 to 18 and Venturing for young men and women ages 14 through 21.

What does that tell you? I think that they'll sell all kinds of these to CT people and maybe two other guys. :stooge:

I will be buying two proof coins (1 for me and 1 for a friend who was a Boy Scout in Canada).

The only reservation is I think the inclusion of that female member of the Venture Club was just an over-the-top attempt at political correctness. Really I'm surprised this coin ever got approved in the first place given how politically correct the government is.

I was a scout. I'm not buying any though.

I can't see paying $50 bucks for this coin, especially since with the markup I perceive this as a thinly veiled way to make money off kids or their parents... and take advantage of scout leaders with the limit set at 100 they can then push them on their troops.

$50 bucks could go a super long way for a kid to start a nice collection loaded with lots of specimens, rather than just a single coin too!

I'm guessing you weren't an Eagle!

I'm not put off by the female Venture Scout, it reminds me of how much women have been a part of the org for some time, particularly as Den Mothers. I can remember as a child the CBS Evening News coverage of the Girl Scouts' refusal to admit boys even though the Boy Scouts let in girls. The story ended with a picture of a gift to the President from the Girl Scouts (a Declaration of Independence made out of Macaroni) and Walter Cronkite questioning whether that was the kind of organization boys should join!

You don't think it's a good idea to want to keep gay men from going on camping trips and sleeping in tents with young boys?

Even after the policy change, I'd be hesitant to want to send my kid to boy scouts in this day and age. It's a real shame. That NY post story says a lot. What a shame. That sure puts them in a very dim light.

I'll probably be passing on this commemorative. The coin doesn't interest me.

It's a nice enough commemorative; not going to come around again and one of the few that I feel will definitely appreciate in value. I'm buying one of each, unc. and proof.

The girl on the coin doesn't bother me: I think it's a plus that the Venturing program has them in it.

I feel the AP story cited above is sensationalistic. The list of potential evil-doers was a method developed to track predators LONG before law enforcement did this, or paid much attention to the issue.

i like it very much. but i won't buy any modern commemorative. i tried the white house, and the benjamin franklin. it went up but now it's near bullion value. at $39.95 plus $4.95 a piece. and afterward is at $43.95 plus $4.95 = $48.90 (280.3% mark up). the bullion value is only $12.86 each. i would rather buy ASE at $20.17 and its bullion value is at $17.96 (12.3% mark up). buy 500 pc. you even get very much lesser mark up.
