The whole thing was political in the eyes of most, so I copy pasted and sent a PM to Paddy and I will handle it that way. Once again, it is almost like somebody looking down and saying that my age is what limits me from doing something, but in this case it is about my patriotism and the way I feel about other countries. Not letting this slide...
No problems with Canada, but the poster of that thread has every right to be mad about other country's currency being in his, which he can't spend.
Truth is, you don't need to be involved in my and Paddy's business, and I hijacked your thread, but it doesn't escape the fact that your thread shouldn't be here in the first place.

I suspect that I speak for most in stating that your apology is appreciated, but we understand that it is human to occasionally "vent", and I believe that the majority have "triggers" that will initiate such action. I believe you are a better person for recognizing fallibility, and providing advance warning of unacceptable discourse. Your expression of dissatisfaction is also appreciated, understandable, duly noted, respected by I, and hopefully other civil participants utilizing this site.:high5:

  6. Shawn, as an American who has never left the county, but collects Canadian coins, I was also offended with that post. I don't think you have anything to apologize for!

FWIW, I left that thread a few replies after my own. I tend to not read things that make me angry...and that did. There is enough stress and pain in my life, I collect coins as a hobby to escape the pain et all, even if just for a few moments. I don't want this hobby to cause me any grief, or anyone else for that matter.

It's funny how ethnic-centric we Americans can be. Many assume that everyone on the Internet is American and that everyone on the Internet speaks English. Wrong and wrong, but forgive and be tolerant of the ignorant (most of whom have never typed a web address ending in .ca). Most of all, vent when you need to. We understand.

Speaking of Canada, I think that it's interesting that although the portrait of the Queen hasn't changed (much), the many different designs of Canadian coinage lately have been far superior to the current American commemorative coins (both circulating and non-circulating). The colorized coins are so cool that although I don't collect Canadian coins, I had to have one of the breast cancer quarter dollars!

They introduced us to the reverse proof bullion coin, and are showing us that you don't need a $1 or $2 bill. They issued the first bi-metallic circulation coin and the list goes on. In fact, if I weren't so busy with the US series I collect, I would probably collect Cnadian coins.

I just wanted to quote this comment in hopes that it gets shut down. It appalls me to think that I have spent 17 years in the U.S. military to support people that are so frivolous as to where a "thread" belongs. Let the man speak his thoughts.

    I 2cd that thought!

I am a also U.S. military vet and concur exactly with your line of thinking. Further more I find it extremely disturbing that T$'s only motivation that would cause him to leave our native soil would be to kill foreigners. I agree with you T$ that our Founding Fathers are rolling in their graves, but I believe they are rolling because of how far our youths minds have fallen from their tree. I am rarely a praying man, but I will definitely say a prayer for you!

You all can have fun with that.
I stand by what I said, first off this thread doesn't belong in Coin Chat. There is a General Discussion forum that this sort of stuff should go into.
What Paddy said struck a nerve with me, almost like it was mocking my age, to say that I can't be thankful I'm an American, and I should just wait until I'm older? Kinda like, my patriotism doesn't really kick in until ______ years of age.
Makes no sense to me, and actually comes off as quite offensive.

But, I'm sure I've offended some of you, with what, me wanting everything back to the way things were, and me saying I don't want to leave this country, for a second. OH GEE, and if I do want to leave this country, it will only be for the purposes of protecting this country if we happen to be in a war.

Fishaddict, if you believe that we should just all speak our thoughts, you have to remember this is a public forum, and there are certain places where we really cannot, and I expect this thread to be moved or deleted, or locked later on in the morning.

A lot of you have no idea what is really lurking in the depths of my mind, and how sick and disgusted I get from reading the paper, or watching the news. I've been described as a hard core conservative, and gotten in with it, with a lot of members here, and have made up with most of them, to a point where we are good friends. Opinions will always be different, and I'm not about to bring in more of mine with a comment that I found offensive. Not worth it.

Seems to me that ole' humpty, the OP of the original thread just spoke his mind, Shawn jumped on the thread a little mad, and Shawn wanted an apology for him thinking that one of the comments was funny.
    WHAT?
I think Snaz, really should have never commented on that thread, and to be honest, I'm wishing right about now I would have never commented on this one.

If anybody wants to continue this conversation, we can do it in private messages.

I have been to Canada a few times.. Love it..
Those that don't go outside the US are missing out.. Just go North or South ...
Canadians And Mexicans are the most Friendly people..
It is the Americans that can be closed minded and sheltered.

T$.. I want to be very careful here..
I truly wish everyone luck.. these are hard times. I understand how the News you watch is driving you nuts, there can be conflict in our minds that we are not aware of but the mind catches.. the Body lives in that conflict and the mind has to respond.. it KNOWS what is wrong even if it is not right up front of your mind.
Borders are and were set arbitrarily buy others.. and that guy on the other side is JUST LIKE YOU.. He has a cat and a Family.. He loves his home.. He is your Brother as we all are.
The world is changing.. we are all together.. we all can feel it coming..
Sadly some will go kicking and screaming into the future.. But we are progressing.
This post was started in peace and should end with it..
You that have been outside the US know how Bad it can be some places.. I have been places I would never want my Family to see.. My wife cries enough.. be thankful. Be JOYFUL. This is ride we ALL are on together.
Cheers to ALL.... I Truly Love all of you!

T$, the goal was to keep this thread NOT about politics. And to be a make up thread. The only reason now this thread will get locked is because of you. It would just get pushed to GD had you not started this. And the reason I posted it here was because there are alot of people not subscribed to GD, that would not have saw this had I posted it in GD.
    Do you understand Travis?

The first one in North America, right. ;) Will refrain from posting my thoughts about "serving" and "defending the country" here, but when it comes to which country issued the first bimetallic (duplex) circulation coins, Italy would be my first guess. They introduced one in 1982 ...

I find it really cool to find something different in my change pocket and have a really nice date set going of Canadian cents because of it. They cost me one cent and it's been a lot of fun over the past 30 or so years. What a great hobby.

Awww, how nice, the OP started an apology thread that has nothing to do with coins, but more U.S.-Canadian relations. I find it especially warming that Snaz has received so much support while I have been demonized for my comments, I guess the amount of posts a member does count in their favour (or against)!

Snaz, I have read and reread your so called apology opening post, there was nothing about coins or currency what so ever in your post with the exception of a photo of a Canadian cent! In your apology, you list a whole bunch of Canadian comments that irritate you and use those as a reason to leave comments to my “I hate Canadian Cents” thread. Funny enough though, the “Queens Mug” comment came in another thread after your little rant in the listed link! Stop feeling sorry for yourself. It is warming how much sympathy you received though.

Oh, about the “Queens Mug” comment I made, as a DUEL citizen and having been born and raised in London, England for HALF of my life, holding a British passport gives me the very right to not like seeing the Queens face on money being used in a country who’s forefathers had opted to escape that same crown!

And with the following criticisms of members on CT, I will take my bow and leave this website as although there is a lot of knowledge on this website, there are a LOT of members who can’t distinguish the differences between mocking a person country as opposed to mocking the fact that it is illegal to pass foreign currency in a U.S gas station!

RickieB, you said; “No need to..you should be proud of your Country! Canada has some exceptional older Bank Notes too!!”

If you actually read the thread I started, you would have seen that I wasn’t mocking Canadian, I don’t like the fact returned money I can no longer spend!

Mpcusa, you said; “Nothing wrong with Canada!!”

Are you saying that Canadian money is legal tender for a transaction in a U.S. gas station? Because if that isn’t what you’re implying, I’d like to know what your sympathies were based on.

Mat, you said; “It really is annoying when others make fun of others countries.”

Why don’t you read the actual thread listed at the top of Snaz’s I’m sorry thread and tell me how I was making fun of Canada!

Paddy54, you said; “As Americans we think we have rights to speak and say anything we wish to.... and maybe so but it's still not cool to yell FIRE in a Movie! Let me apoligize for abunch of Americans who are just uneducated and unrefined!”

Well this is the stupidest comment I’ve read on an website! Uneducated, unrefined, haha, if you’re apologizing for me, don’t you dare! To say that I’m uneducated, which reads that you’re stating to have a higher education that me, check your spelling first!

Also Paddy54, you’re saying that there are “nuts living just south”, what because I want to be able to spend my change. Stop kissing arse!

As for you fishaddict; “ Shawn, it is terrible that there are such ignorant people in the world…”

Yeah, and this has what to do with myself and others not being to spend their foreign change that is received in our country? You also said that I should try to put a Canadian cent collection together, why, because you said so?

Rosethe; “I haven't read the offending thread.”

Perhaps you should, there’s nothing about Canada, only their money being handed out as LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBT, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE!

Texmech; “Suffice to say, you took the high ground. Well done.”

Hmmm, I’m lost on what high ground Snaz took on insulting me because I can’t spend HIS money in MY country!

Financeman; “I dont think you owe anyone any apolagies. I read the entire thread and I too have a passion for my country. I think that is part of the problem with some people taking such a great country (both America and Canada) for grantes.

You say you read the entire thread and then post this comment. What on earth does what I had to say have anything to do with nationalism! Reread my comments and you’ll clearly see that it is ABOUT spending foreign money in America that is NOT authorized for public or private debt!

Another ridiculous comment from Paddy54; “but being I'm old enough to be your grand daddy I tell you now this ...you should see other countries you should learn first hand how others live.”

What does that comment have to do with passing foreign currency in AMERICA! Oh, and with you being older, would that give you the right to tell a younger president how to run the country or a younger CEO how to run their company. Yeah, a lot of sense you make!

Zekeguzz; “Well said Shawn. there are many many of us down here that admire and collect your country's coins and currency.”

I don’t collect Canadian money, but that’s beside the point. I can’t spend Canadian change that I receive in America!

Notsure; “Canada is a great place to visit”

And this has what to do with coins?

DCTJR80, your whole post was pointless! Yeah, its my fault that as I live in America, I expected American money in return when out at the stores. How funny???

Billy Kingsley; “Shawn, as an American who has never left the county, but collects Canadian coins, I was also offended with that post. I don't think you have anything to apologize for! “

I hear ya Billy, its very offensive when a person complains because they receive change that THEY CANNOT SPEND IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY! What a pathetic you have written!

Fishaddict; “I just wanted to quote this comment in hopes that it gets shut down. It appalls me to think that I have spent 17 years in the U.S. military to support people that are so frivolous as to where a "thread" belongs. Let the man speak his thoughts.”

It appalls me to think that I spent I spend 8 years in the U.S. military to support people who bash me for complaining that I CANNOT SPEND CANDIAN CURRENCY I RECEIVE IN MY CHANGE!

Then there’s SNAZ’s comment, the OP; “T$, the goal was to keep this thread NOT about politics. And to be a make up thread.”

And we come full circle. Snaz, this very post was all about nationalism and politics! But hey, great job on getting people to look past the fact that my other thread was about illegally passing Canadian money in the U.S monetary system for PUBLIC AND PRIVATE DEBT.

My God. This has been blown WAAAAAAY out of proportion. I saw the original comments that were made from when this all started and I have not posted until now. (I was hoping to avoid wasting the time with it.)

Personally, I felt that snaz over-reacted to the original thread. (I am being completely neutral here and don't intend to defend either side.)

If that is how you felt man, that's fine with me. I wasn't offended. There was no need for an apology. You could have just let it go for all I cared. But now, HD has come back with full play by play to take up more server space and throw fuel on the fire, when we're already all bored with it.

HD, I'm sure you're a hell of a guy and I have nothing against you. I'm sorry that you feel there was favortism shown towards a veteran member. If you leave over this non-sense, B.S., I think it would be a shame. But,whatever you need to do. If there's anything I've learned in life, it's that sometimes you need to pick your battles. This was below trivial.

Have not decided yet whether I should burst out laughing or just shake my head. Oh, and while I usually don't comment on typos (or else I would have to comment my own posts a lot ...), I found this >as a DUEL citizen< quite appropriate for this topic. (duck)

OK, I have to pipe in now.. I live in Michigan, Close to our neighbors to the north. I grew up here and have made alot of friends just over the boarder. I see the coins on a daily basis and really dont pay attention. I find two things about Canada disturbing. ONE: when I was younger I went to Kitchener and smoked... Oh never mind, that was a boatload of fun even if I dont remember it all.. TWO: They got this crazy guy over there that calls himself SNAZ. : ) OK, I'm done. Oh and snaz I had to poke once at ya buddy.
Get over it gang, we are all in this together. Its all about our OCD..
