Coins of the Kievan Rus

    Here is my Typ I Srebrenik. The coin is holed, like many of them are. Often these coins have been dedicated to Icons and attached to them by a thread through these holes.

    I doubt that most of them were cut in half. There is a name for the ones that were cut in half "Rezana" (rezat' = to cut), but as far as I know most of them were left uncut.

    Interesting link. I happen to have such an "Ovruch slate" spindle whorle, but never knew that they were used as money.

    Really great coins. Personally I have never seen one in person or online for that matter. I have several Crusader issues small flans as well as Bulgarian scyphates. Very challenging area to collect.
