I'm going to change mine as well. That obverse is clean and stunning...but the lighting makes me think it's not PL. I'm going to ignore that thing on the reverse and say a solid MS67.

Gonna close this one down this evening. Hint: drop all the low grades—they don’t jive with the pictures. There is no way any TPG would grade this less than gem. Also, remember that die state or die polish lines have no bearing on the grade. :)

I think what I'm seeing is polish lines. The coin really doesn't have many "hits" to speak of.
    I'll change my guess from 65+ to 66+ :D
I'll still say no to PL but I'm not great at determining that designation.

Ok, this may surprise some folks. Coins like this are hard to grade. The pictures are often less good than the actual coin appears, as die polish striations jump out at the camera. Once one disregards the die polish lines, look at the level of surface preservation, strike, luster, and overall eye appeal. If one looks at that, and disregards the die polish lines, it is extremely clean. The luster is also way off the charts, as well.

Regarding the PL status, it is fairly obviously PL. it does not have the super strong cameo effect, as the fields have this silky look in hand. A lot of high grade PL coins tend to be that way. It is also a function of lighting and photography. The mark on the reverse is on the slab, on the inside top of the plastic. It will probably get reholdered for that reason.

This is the highest PL Morgan that I currently own. I got it at mid 66 prices in an auction about 17 months ago. It really is a looker in person.

Beautiful coin the grade actually isn't surprising to me.I though it might of been a PL if it wasn't they at least just gave it a boost straight 68 which is what I thought.

I should have figured that the the super clean fields and cheek warranted a higher grade. I was too conservative at 65.

Sweet thats all I can say. I can imagine how nice this is. I have a 1882 S PCGS 64 PL and I love it. I can only imagine how this looks in hand.

Stunning coin. PL can be so hard to tell in photos...but I'm sure in hand it's very clear. I personally love the die polish lines on this coin.

That mark on the slab on the reverse threw me initially.

Looks like 66 to me. Tough to tell for sure from the photos but I don’t really see any significant issues.
