Growing up in the sixties was a wonderful time...I've often thought how fortunate I was to be born and raised in this time peroid. ....I never would wish for a do over....to any other time. To those of you who weren't part of this time line...well hopefully this thread, and post from us who were enlighten you to how things really were.... It wasn't uncommon for companies to give aways all sorts of Swag... Just about everything and anything one can imagine. You had a monthly Fuller Brush man....who stop by the house, he always had some small gimmie to put in your hand, with hopeful thoughts of selling you something. Not only was there a Fuller brush man...but the Jewel T company...long before shopping malls..you had salesmen knocking at your door...showing and selling their products... Companies in general knew a foot in the door with a little swag...generated sales! Encyclopedia's , footwear, cookies, pretzels and chips....etc...etc...all came to the front door. And guess what? They all made money to support their famlies. Post your numastics swag...encased cents, coins, and what ever you have found that was the key to a door to door salesman. Here is an Morgan silver dollar a give away from Armour Star meats...you will notice I said Armour star* As in those days that was their branding....not just Armour...see the * in the lower right after Armour.
So agaiin there wasn't large supermarkets but there was the milk man... and daily he came buy your house and delivered your milk...sometimes donuts....yum!
My aunt got this from the dealer when she bought a 1951 Pontiac. 1951 was the Silver Anniversary of the Pontiac. Of course, like all my relatives, she gave it to her coin collecting nephew.
During the 60's nuclear power plants were the new dawn...power plants like Peach Bottom in Pa. Gave or sold these in the gift shops....everyone wanted to be a part of the nuclear age.... having an irradiated coin to take to school in 4th grade you were in awe...
Word got around quickly not to knock on our door, as ma used to greet each of them with a shot gun in hand. LOL

So a top of the mark 1951 Pontiac priced out at around $1900. And they gave you in all actuality a silver dollar as a thank you gift...that was at that time = to $1. One must remember that was a luxury car...as in the mid 70's you could still buy a car under $1900. New.
And today you buy a top of the mark car and you might get a free baseball hat. People didn't make the purchase for the money clip. It was a memento of the 25th Anniversary.
