Hi all. I bought this raw about two years ago as part of a lot and rather like it. I know it is not a [fake] red screaming MS66 coin but still IMHO very honest and presentable:

Nice coin. You don't have to make excuses for showing it.

Ah thanks. When I saw it I liked it and was thankful it came along as practically a freebie; funny thing is that I had always wanted a mint marked Indian cent and thought the '09 S was just a bit too high FWIW to me.

Love it! I remember as a little kid wishing I could someday have an IHC that actually showed at least a trace of LIBERTY -- I would've been ecstatic to have a cent with this level of detail, mint mark or no. If I ever get a mint-marked IHC, I'd be more than happy with an example like this.

I have one just like it. A 1908-S raw that's about the same grade. Nothing wrong with it at all like this and a lot that's right.

That's what's amazing, how you got it. Why don't I get lots like this? :)

Well, LOL, it was a Brit auction so came as a group with an 1858 LL FE that was prob upper AU 58ish and some nice Barber dimes and quarters all in the VF range. If I can find the FE will show it.

Might in fact be although the devices and lettering as well as denticles are very well delineated. IMHO the central obverse device is a bit soft and thus the decrease of emphasis on "LIBERTY" legend.

My father had a jar full of IHCs and my brother and I split them up. We had enough so that both of us had almost a full set. I put them in a 2x2 and in a coin box. I label all of my 2x2's with the year and the mint mark. They are pretty nice, but as we looked through them, there was no 1877 IHC. Neither of us were collectors until we got Dad's coins, so we didn't know that some coins had a low mintage and that we would have to get to buy one. We couldn't decide who would keep the 1877 and for how long. Since we didn't get one, we decided to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait until we could find one that we could afford. That was 26 years ago. I hope my brother didn't find one and decided not to share. He was like that when we were growing up. I am now 74 and my brother is 72. Any ideas on finding out if he has one and if he does, why he hadn't told me. He lives in L.A. and I live in Eastern Coast of North Carolina. What a dilemma.

Very nice. Just about like the one my mom gave me that she had found in circulation when she was young. It started me collecting coins.

Ah yes my thoughts as well. To me such a coin represents a true "core" collector type coin, and not the Multi-thousand dollar coins in the headlines.
Unfortunately these coins and collectors of them are becoming IMO scarcer.
