...i have a coin coming from Canada.. it was mailed 25th of last month..it hit N. Y. the 27th....and still, as of today, i've not received it and 'its on its way'...pony express would've been a lot quicker...anyone else experiencing this slow decline of our civilization? i say...bring back the...
It's not just the USPS...it's many things of business both public and private...many too big for their britches, terribly mismanaged/broken (and/or broke), terrible human customer service (if they even know the meaning or have any) void of any personalization, and on and on. Of all the mail sent and processed on a percentage basis, et al, the USPS is still way ahead in terms of delivery and accuracy, timely, etc. Break it down by category of mail and some may be a bit less than others, but still overall pretty good. And no, I've never worked for the USPS and I don't ship/receive that often...I've actually had more issues with Brown and Fed Ex.
I've got a Bricklink order from Belgium that shipped on the 23rd and hasn't arrived yet, though I'm unsure of the timeframe for overseas orders. I sure hope I wasn't scammed out of a whole 15 Euros
Yesterday, I received an envelope, without tracking, from Finland that took exactly 6 days to arrive. Usually, domestic shipments are longer than that.
It may be stuck in US Customs. I've had some coins, from Canada and Europe, which were stuck in US Customs for 2 weeks or so. I live in the US. For coins and books from the US, they usually arrive pretty quickly. Usually within 1 week.
Also, sometimes the tracking stops, and then the coins just magically appear in my PO box. I agree, about civilization declining, in some ways. And advancing, in other ways.
Last year I had a coin coming from Canada tied up at Customs, La Guardia Airport. It was detained for about three months, but I don't think that is the case with your coin. Customs is just a bottleneck.
The Pony Express was set up to provide a fresh horse every 10-15 miles and a fresh rider every 75-100 miles. 75 horses were needed total to make a one-way trip. Average speed was 10 miles per hour. I believe we could find some union laborers at todays' wages and benefits to accommodate your wants. It cost me $3500 and a little more time to get a $6000 registered black German Shepherd from New Mexico to Northern Minnesota. I believe we have become spoiled, but I believe your wishes can be accommodated, if you have enough time and money. JMHO
Fortunately, I had enough money, associates, knowledge, and time to formulate a Pseudo "Pony-Express"-like delivery system for a very unique canine. We are spoiled! JMHO
I'm still waiting for a coin from a German auction shipped to me on April 13, and a coin from a Spanish auction shipped to me on April 21 (itself a date almost two months after the auction took place, because it took that long for the export permit to be granted). There's no sign of either of them, and I'm beginning to think they're both lost, which would be remarkable bad luck. The German tracker says the package was given to US Customs on April 28, but the USPS tracker didn't record that event and still shows the package in Germany. I've filed a lost mail inquiry, but have heard nothing yet. The Spanish tracker shows no movement at all, and USPS apparently doesn't follow packages with tracking numbers from Spain -- unlike packages from the UK, France, Germany, and other European countries. Which makes the Spanish tracking number effectively useless. The auction house has filed a claim, but told me that it could be another two months before they hear anything. I'll be extremely unhappy if they're lost. Both are Roman Republican denarii I very much wanted.
Since your shipment from Germany is, according to the shipper, in US Customs, it is basically "off the radar" when it comes to USPS tracking. Once Customs releases your shipment the tracking through USPS should pick up from that point. However, the tracking status for your shipment should have "Inbound for Customs", so the conflicting status is strange. Hope you have luck with your lost mail request. Spanish shipments are not trackable through the USPS tracking system. Have you checked the status with Correos de España? https://www.correos.es/es/en/individuals
Thanks. I've never had a situation before where the Deutsche Post tracker says a package has arrived in the destination country and been turned over to Customs, but the USPS tracker doesn't reflect that the package ever left Germany. That link for Spain doesn't seem to work; the one I use is https://www.aftership.com/couriers/spain-correos-es. The most recent entry there is dated one day after the shipment, and (translated into English) says only "The shipment has left the international logistics center of origin and has been sent to destination Apr 22 2022 01:00 pm." That was almost three weeks ago, and, as you note, there's no way of tracking it further.
I'm actually experiencing quicker turnaround times from Canada than I remember in the past. Perhaps I'm misremembering, but in c. 2011-14, a package from Incitatus would take about two weeks from ordering to delivery. A recent order was a week or slightly less, and Praefectus was pretty fast. Deutsche Post seems to take forever and a day (but small sample size) about 3 1/2 weeks. The one order I've done so far from the Netherlands took a month. Royal Mail takes about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks (London Ancient Coins). This time I'm trying DHL Express. I'm slowly becoming more comfortable with DHL Express for run of the mill coins. An order from NeroNumi (Norway) only took 3 or 4 days. The trade-off is: does one want to spend 30 bucks for delivery (DHL)? Regular postage from London Ancient Coins was $15, and I'm on a staycation, so I decided to treat myself with the expensive shipping for my recent orders.
The good thing about DHL is that if a package gets lost or if you suspect so, it is rather easy to get in touch with a real, live person. They do keep in touch and solve issues. Try doing that with UPS!
