I'm trying to stay disciplined and open just one per night. hya: My original plan was to post up pictures of the coins I opened each roll. However, work got in the way this weekend and I even missed the Baltimore show :crying: It's been two (2) nights and I've opened two (2) rolls so far. I regret to report that I have NOT seen a Zachary Taylor coin, yet. ...there's always tomorrow! :thumb: After tonight, there are fifteen (15) rolls left (18 - 2 opened - 1 for the Shriners = 15). Somehow I think I would do better selling these things off on eBay for a 100 bucks a pop, but the CT folks have spoken so I'm opening them up.
I think you should open them up and if you dont find anything, re-wrap them and sell them off on ebay as unsearched with possible erra just like everyone else does on ebay. JUST KIDDING GUYS!!!!!! I agree with everyone else. If you sell them off you will always wonder in the back of your mind if you had the coin that was worth ten grand. Keep us informed on how it turns out and good luck to you.
I appreciate everyone's advice and am opening them as slowly as I possibly can. :desk: I regret to report that after opening six (6) rolls, I have NOT found any Zackary Taylor coins. :crying: I'm still hoping to hit the jackpot with one of the remaining rolls. I did find one (1) roll that had some fairly nice coins...MS66, perhaps. Most of the coins in these rolls have been pretty banged up...MS64 and lower.
I've opened nine (9) rolls so far...still no luck. I sent one roll to jaceravone as a prize for the Shriner's fundraiser and have eight (8) rolls left to open. I ran out of tubes so I have to buy some more in the morning...then I'll resume opening them.
Super Nice gesture Super Nice gesture, YP. I have ONE 2009 NA roll but I think it is from Philly. Then, again, perhaps that improves my odds. of finding "The Other One." But I suggested you bust open yours so I guess I'll have to bust open mine now. Best of luck to BOTH of us and if I find the only one from Philly will give half to the the Shriners. Of course, I'll want $20K because then there will be "Two" but of one each. Time to Glove Up!
I believe a reasonable solution is that first you implement your "Option B", with what you'd consider a fair price, considering all factors, and then when they don't sell, implement "Option A".
Give them to me, I will open them for you and sell it back to you for a small premium. SOunds good to me -Shrek
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I must report that after opening nineteen (19) rolls of 2010-D Native American direct ship dollar coins...no Zackary Taylor coins were found. :crying: The good news is that there's still one (1) unopened roll left, but it no longer belongs to me. I donated it to jaceravone/stainless for their Shriner's fundraiser. I plan to make a sizable contribution with hopes of getting it back! Think about it...no one knows how many 2010-dated Zachary Taylor coins there are. The Mint is sparing no expense to search the 28,000 remaining rolls in hopes of finding more...so they must think more exist. The only one known to exist was shipped from the Mint in January...the Shriner's roll was shipped on 26 January!! Let's assume "at least" one (1) more coin exists, then the odds of finding it in the last roll of the Yakpoo "hoard" are certainly greater now that 19 rolls have been searched...simple mathmatics!! This could be a $10,000 coin! :hail: You may even get NGC to attribute it as the "Shriner's" coin when you send it in for certification! So donate large and donate often to the Shriner's fundraiser...odds are you'll make money!! :thumb:
This is my 1st post. I just opened a roll of nf string taylor d, and found a similar error coin!!!! It has the date 200 d, with no stars or lettering!! Just 200 d !! edited Of course i will be getting it graded asap.
I opened all mine (19 rolls) up and didn't find any Zachary Taylors. :crying: There was a twentieth roll that I donated as a prize to the Shriner's Hospital fundraiser. I haven't heard about the results from that roll.
A completely different thing. You have a grease-filled die coin, where a design element (in your case the "9" of the date) isn't fully struck, an "error" so common that it lacks premium value. The OP described a coin struck with an element that it's not supposed to have. Having it graded will be a total waste of money.
No it is NOT a grease filled die. The letters on the edge of the coin are incuse and are created by RAISED letters on the edge die. To remove them so they don't create an impression in the coin you have to break them off. And he said that ALL of the other letters and stars are missing. It would be very unlikely that all the letters broke off the die. Something else must have happened that cause the coin to drop out of the lettering machine prematurely. It is not a really common error. Is it worth slabbing? Not in my opinion, but I feel that way about 95% of the stuff that gets slabbed.
