I received an email today soliciting donations for the auction that benefits the young numismatist summer seminar. My question is, have any of you donated material and what was it? I'm having trouble deciding. It would probably be 3-5 slabbed coins total and a few raw ones. A small donation, but I'd like to support the cause. Just trying to get a feel for what was in previous auctions and what people might like to bid on.
I've participated in the ANA YN auctions before. Never attended a summer seminar (and probably won't be able to) but got this one at the annual online auction. There's all sorts of coins at the auctions: silver, errors, US coins, foreign coins, ancient coins, and random stuff like this. Only won one coin so far, they get pretty competitive, haha!
Congrats on winning that one! There was some really really nice stuff in the catalog last year. A genuinely nice 1820 Bust Quarter (nice ones are straight up hard to find!), three 8 Reales, and many very nice type coins. No surprise it got competitive!
I got the same email, and I am dealing with the same dilemma. I will send something but I'm not sure what yet.
Pretty sure I'll send a couple graded silver ounces, I've got a graded Franklin I won in a GAW that doesn't really fit my collection, so that'll probably go. I have one Greek ancient I purchased when I began collecting ancients and decided I liked Roman coinage instead, so another possibility. The daunting task is getting everything out and deciding.
I donate coins to the YN auction as well as bid on items in there. When I win, I then donate what I won to a YN in our club. Win!Win, and you feel like you are giving back in the name of someone who helped you when you started to collect. Have fun,
