I have two of them. I collect all W mint proof issues. I agree that the price is way out of proportion to value.
Thats an opinion though . Someone else might say they think the new ones look much better than the originals. Apparently there is a huge demand for them if they are selling at those prices which means a lot of people must love them
I'm not sure if 2 people driving up the price at an auction constitutes "A huge demand" or is sufficient to conclude that "A lot of people must love them". Just saying
Oh no I wasn’t referring to just this auction. I was referring to the fact that in general these 2021 Morgans & Peace Dollars sell for a lot more than the $85 retail price because there seems to be a huge demand which means a lot of people like them. Even if you go to APMEX or JM Bullion you’ll see they tend to sell for much higher than the $85 that the US Mint charged. That is why I said people seem to love them. I wasn’t referring to these 2 coins with bids way over normal. These coins still sell all day for $275 or so in MS70 on Ebay & on the two websites I mentioned above. If I put my full MS70 set on Ebay I am confident I could get more than I paid for the coins + the grading fees + shipping & insurance. Usually when a coin sells for more than the retail price it means demand is strong. So even if these aren’t worth the $700 bid even a $275 valuation is still an indicator of strong demand.
No one knows for sure. I think the resellers are running low on inventory and I believe most of the people who bought them plan on keeping them. It’s all about supply and demand. I thought the V75 American Gold Eagle would drop in value and I would be able to get one to go with my V75 American Silver Eagle. The exact opposite happened . Now they’re more expensive than they ever were.
