Very Nice. If it were me I would brighton the picture. And I would be the last person I would listen to. My Scans leave a lot to be desired. LOL Just keep trying. You will get it right. The important thing is that you are trying.
Yea, I definitely need to play around with it. I do need to work on sizing and positioning. I'll play around with brightness as well. I'm aiming on getting the scans to appear just as the coins appear in typical lighting. A few of them are close, the others not so much.
I don't believe in 'typical'. In hand, we wiggle coins around until they look the best they can. On a scanner we need to rotate the coins so the light appears to come from the best side to highlight the coin. You can always restore the top of the coin to the top of the picture using postprocessing software. In my opinion the best one is the Constantinopolis because the left facing bust put the light on the face rather than the back of the head. Each scanner model is different when it comes to angle of light. I'd try scanning these with a quarter turn so the light appears to come from the top and a half turn so it comes into the faces of the right facing portraits and see which looks better. I see no reason to use a lower resolution. You could crop tighter which would make less waste white around the coins and increase brightness and contrast a bit.
