There is no doubt in my mind that this one is Premium Gem. The Luster present in hand doesn't quite make a 68 but it is close. Smooth and deep. ICG nailed this one. MS67
It's going in the $50 and under thread. @jtlee321 Many got the grade right. No one got the correct grade and tie breaker. Well done on the 67's
@Pickin and Grinin , Does that mean that I didn't get the Grading Job? I would of only gone as high as MS65. I guess that I need more practice... On War Nickels anyways. Nice Coin!!
Thanks Sal. Photos can be tricky, I haven't done good lately with GTG's. Been way too busy to follow along. We'll just say that a coin with a weak strike, or worn strike can sometimes be associated with a circulated or bag marked coin. Don't let the difference in luster confuse you.
Not sure how I missed this thread, and I'm sure the reveal has been done since it is 3 pages long, but here it goes, Ed Wood style. ANACS MS67
Nice coin no doupt.... I would grade it at 64/65 . Sorry but no way a 67 and if sent to the top two graders I believe that it be a 65. I've never seen an ICG coin that the grade or label truly matched what the coin in the slab actual grade.
1944-D Jefferson Nickel ICG MS67: Cracked Out: 1944-D Jefferson Nickel NGC MS67: When I see a Jefferson in an ICG holder at a show, I don't ignore it, I look closely to see if it matches the assigned grade. If it does, I offer money for one grade lower and usually leave with a nice coin.
I just purchased my first ICG slab about two months ago an 1849 half dime. In a detailed slab marked detailed crossion. And busted it out, gave it a dip in Acetone it was a better of the 1849 varieties. Traded to a dealer friend as I already had the die marriage for $265 cash & trade... The coin was crusty ,but nothing a acetone dip didn't fix. And it was just dipped not soaked or cleaned. If a TPG doesn't know the difference between dirt and rust then I have no need for their service. The only reason I purchased this was a dealer showed it to me and wanted to dump it as it sat in his case . So I knew it was the variety and for for $40 it was a no brainer. However I would of never looked at it had not Len didn't show me the slab....as he knew I collected H-10's.
I looked at a few ICG Jeffersons today at the Denver Coin Expo. If I didn't find what I was looking for. I would have been back for a few of them. @Paddy54 I don't have the history that Lehigh does with crack and grading, not even close, If ICG wasn't a market acceptable grader they wouldn't be in the top 4 TPG's. I find more ICG coins that I am willing to buy than ANACS. Edit: Unless it is a Soap box slab. I have more Soap bar slabs than any other slab in my collection.
