Found this in my LCS bargain bin. .925 silver. 28.28 grams. Case is scratched up, but not going to remove it. I’m happy with the $ 1 buy! Got some old Canadian cents too (1880’s) will post them later! Not sure if this is a proof or not, very hard to tell. What do you think?
Silver is currently $22.58…times .925 (sterling, btw)…equals $20.8865. Divide that by the number of grams in a troy oz (let’s round down to 31)= .6737 per gram. Multiply that by the coins grammage (28.28) and we end up with a total current silver value (not melt)…approx. $19.05USD. Darn good for $1.00! Nice snag and a really nice coin, too…Spark
Very nice. I'd like to visit your LCS sometime. You might be able to restore that case so the scratches don't show.
Thanks spark1951 for the advanced math work. I appreciate it~ Mountain man. I was just looking into that on google to see if I have the stuf onhad I would need to restore it.
Ever since I learned how to set up algebraic proportions (1967) in high school I have tried to make math applicable to everyday life. This was not algebra, merely arithmetic. BTW, I looked up the coin and it is a KM41a. The plain KM41 is copper-nickel but no grammage is listed. Yours, at 28.28g, is silver…and there is a proof listed with the same weight as well.
That much silver for a $1?! Well as @Mountain Man said, I want to know where that coin shop is too haha
I'm lucky to have a great LCS. Honest and helpful. He also has quite a variety of fun stuff. He has a small box of ancients for $10 ea. Most are pretty corroded (as many ancients are) but once in awhile one with decent detail shows up. Also has a large bin of circulated foreigns for .15 cents ea (mostly 1800's through 1950's). and a tupperware tub full of $1 coins, mostly foreigns and foreign proofs (lots of island proofs) which this came out of. Always a fun shopping experience for me.
