Here’s my best detector find in my first season (2021)

Across the street from the Saint John’s RCC in a neighborhood of 1810s-20s homes.

It beats the two silvers I’ve gotten, one being a 1917 mercury, for sure.

I do not own it though. BA7FA293-451D-4A66-B4C7-4F5541C5CE48.jpeg

Here is the highest grade large cent I have.

Some people might like this one more.

The grading company gave this one a higher grade than the 1820, which is an MS-65, R&B, as an MS-66, R&B, but I don't like it as well.

They are rarer in quantities produced doncha kno . . . . .

Someday they will probably be afforded the same regard as the works of Scott, Levick, Bashlow, Kettle, and McNamara.

Half of my two cents... ;) Only have the one large cent, but have always enjoyed it and would love to have lots more eventually.

@johnmilton, those are stunning! 150- to 200-year-old coppers in that condition? Terrific! And what's holding that 1820 obverse die together? :)
    Thanks for posting.

It is hard to say what kept that 1820 cent die together. It must have lasted a long time because the variety is quite common. I will have to look up the die states, but perhaps it broke during the preparation process and somehow had a strong base under an oddly superficial but obvious circular crack. Of course, the surviving population has been bolstered by the fact that many of these coins were saved in the Randal Hoard.

I pick up a few stragglers here and there. But, yenz remind me that I need to throw some dough at a better quality collection.
