Even if all the coins are in the right holes, it seems all the keys are missing, in which case that was a lot of money to pay for about $30 worth of coins. Hope I'm wrong. I'd love to hear how it turns out when you get it.

It looks to be in a decent grade too... imagine if it turns out to be correctly placed!!

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. I certainly wouldn't be excited quite yet.

The only coins there worth more than a few bucks are the 31-S and 09-S. Not that it means much from his "great" :rolling: pictures, but neither of those 2 coins look to me to even have a mintmark. If those 2 are really there, you did great. But......................

I hope it works out well for you. Even if it turns out were you did not get the ones you wanted, it was a gamble that cost a little over $100 and if you got the ones you wanted, WOW!!!!!
You have to gamble a little in life but I really hope it turns out good for you. Let us know.

Yeah, I noticed it looked like the mm were missing on the 31-S, and the 55 doubled die looked like it has one. But it will keep you busy for a while !! Yeah, sometimes the draw is strong.

I was proactive when I paid the bill.
    I asked him this

    One question,
I based my bid on what I saw in the pictures and was assumming that all the coins were in the proper holes. What are my options if I recieve the coins and there is not a 1931-s, 1909-s etc.

I am sure they are correct and am looking forward to seeing them.

    He replied by sending this
    Dear ohiohorseshoeman,

Glad you asked your question. Both coins you have asked about are not there. The wrong coins are in those holes. The 1909-S is a regular 1909, and the 1931-S had a 1929 in the hole. These are consignment items and I took for granted that they were what they were supposed to be, as I know very little about this type of item. It appears the collector did not have a clue what they were doing. I have immediately refunded your entire payment back to your PayPal account. I'm sure if these 2 coins are not correct, that all the coins will have to be inspected before the items are reauctioned or given back to the consigner. I know very little about coins, and we really don't make that much for listing the items, and I just do not have the expertise or time to sit here trying to sort out this type of mess. I really apologize and I am so happy that you emailed me with your concerns. I was wondering why the coins were bidding high. To me they are just wheat pennies. Let me know your thoughts.

I responded by saying thanks for the honesty

    He then sent this back

Thank you for your kind email, and for your understanding. I'm so sorry that this has happened, and I have definately learned to pay closer attention to any coin lots in collector books. Chances are the consigner will just have me take them out of the books, and just sell them as a lot of wheat pennies. Again, I am very sorry this has happened, and I am so very happy that you emailed me in advance before I shipped them. Thanks again, and I hope we can do business in the future.

Lesson learned- at least I got my money back

Hey, that's a standup seller there....he even uses good english.

The only thing you should have suggested to him is that he examine the key and semi-key date holes since most of these sets sell primarily on those coins. Once that is established, those are the only coins he really needs to even photograph.

That was a cheap lesson. I did not think those 2 looked right.

That seller did right by you and I'd consider his future offerings just on that alone. There's always a good feeling when you know you're doing business with someone who'll stand behind his word and not try to pull any scams. That is what this hobby should have as a prerequisite for trading with fellow hobbyists.

I have been dealing with more and more CT'ers because they have been most honest. Their being a part of our group means they must exhibit a higher standard than you'll find on ebay or craigslist, etc.

I told him that when ever he get the chance to go through the coins and relists them, I may be interested.

Well that is cool. I am sure at a little lower price.:D
There are still some good coins in there even if the key ones are not in the bunch.

Wow, you made the top 3 bids 4 days before the auction ended!? The seller appears to be honest but other sellers would find a shill bidder until they can get a bid in between other bids so they get the top dollar out of you multiple high bids.
