As some of you know, I have recently (VERY) unexpectedly obtained some junk silver from which I will take/sell about 1500$ to spend on coins. I was thinking of buying a signature coin for my (rather small) collection (as I will probably not have this opportunity again). So far what I was able to come up with is the 2000W 10$ Bimetalic proof(@Apmex for 925), or a certified 3$ Princess in EF-AU (somewhat more, and not exactly sure on the cost (could use some help)). Another separate option would be a circulated year & MM Peace dollar set, with maybe the '28 certified & in MS. I am looking for opinions and additional ideas. Thanks

I always say, collect what you like. Which of those selections gets you most excited? If it is about even, perhaps take a few weeks, or months to shop and just get the best deal in terms of quality for the price for that coin or group of coins. I wouldn't be in any hurry, if this might be a once in many years kind of purchase. Grading gold is its own specialty, so look at a minimum look at lots of online images, so as to see what is out there. The bi-metallic coin is more straightforward, though you might do better on price if you can find a motivated seller. If you go the Peace dollar set route, again, taking some time might make the journey that much more enjoyable. Often times the shopping is more fun, than the actual purchase. For me, once the money is spent, the fun is mostly over. That may seem counterintuitive, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels that way. So bottom line, which coin or group of coins gets you most excited? If all are about even, take some time and shop, and look for a good deal in terms of quality and price. If buying gold, take some time to look at a lot of coin images (if shopping online). Heritage, Teletrade, and many dealer sites will have many archived images with prices.
Like it has already been said, if this is something that you will not be able to do again in a very long time. I would make sure and take your time and think about which coin or coins you want to buy. Make sure you will be happy with your purchase and not a few years from now wish you had of ????? If you are looking for a $1,500-$2,000 signature coin and are entertaining the idea of including moderns, I think you should consider a 2009 Ultra High Relief $20 gold. Wow, now that is a beautiful gold coin. A little out of my price league but maybe one day when I grow up.
I like the Peace Set. You could get the keys in AU and make them real nice looking Sliders and the common ones in mid 60's. It's look real nice and a fully slabbed set would be your Signature Set!
