I pulled this 1987 loonie from the till a few weeks ago. It's a lot lighter and shinier than a typical loonie from the same time period. The weight is correct. there's a bit of crud at the top which may have been attached to something making me think this was used as a piece of jewelry. However, it's worn but still very shiny and a different color. Any ideas?
That's really something!! My guess is you don't you have a 1987 you can photo it next to, that's why you showed it with a 1989. You may have to get one to truly notice a difference. On these two, the Elizabeth side looks slightly different to me but it could be the angle. What you think? Maybe someone just had it chrome plated.
I didn't have an 86 handy (actually too lazy to dig one out). It appears to be plated but why plate one that's worn? The Queen is the same on both. I just noticed on the edge, some of the plating is coming off and the "normal" color is underneath.
