I don't think it is a Girl Scout on the coin. She is probably a member of the Venture Crew organization within the Boy Scouts which is coed.
Just bumping this post to the top again today as this auction will be starting soon, should be a good show, from 3 pm - 10 pm (ET). If you bookmark the link above, then you can check in Monday to see what the auction price realizes, IF it sells today... BTW, I have nothing to do with this lot/items nor TeleTrade. I'm just an interested spectator of this item and occassionally bid on TT auctions myself, just not this particular auction. :smile
I retract my previous remark...I'm an Eagle scout and the final design is terrible. The design of the 1910 Boy Scout helping the 2010 Boy Scout to the top of the mountain was (imo) the perfect design for the coin. Why these MORONs didn't use that design is beyond me.
WOW! Last bid was up to $6000 with a $200 bidding increment... ...but in the end this lot was NOT SOLD!
disabled veterans proof - 90,993 disabled veterans unc - 40,841 boys scout proof - coming soon boys scout unc - coming soon
Nope. 'tis a lady Boy scout, the coin pretends the organization is coed in order to be politically correct.
2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life coins (AV1: $39.95 intro price, $43.95 regular price / AV2: $33.95 intro price, $35.95 regular price) have a combined mintage of 350,000 coins across both versions.† Similarly the forthcoming 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Commemorative Coins due to release on March 23, 2010 will have the same 350,000 allowed mintage and pricing structure: $33.95 for the unc coins and $39.95 for the proof coins. After April 22, if they are still available, prices will increase to $35.95 for unc coins and $43.95 for proofs. We read that the Veterans coins sold 98,358 coins in the first three days of Mint sales! from CoinNews.net I am guessing that the Boy Scouts commems will fly out of the Mint MUCH faster than the Veterans commems sales pace. SO, Can the Boy Scouts commem sell out prior to the April price increase? Probably not due to the huge mintage, but there are many generations of Scouts who currently are or once were coin collectors... probably a lot of sales will be as gifts for Scouts too. I bet a lot of dealers place large bulk orders for the year end holidays and for after the Mint has sold out, with increases above Mint pricing. What do you think? Is this one an easy sell out for the Mint?
I think that the BSA commemorative coins will sell out very quickly. They are definitely on my "to buy" list. TC
Yes the Explorers were part of the Boy Scouts and they were Co-ed. I'm not sure if they still have the Explorer program anymore, but it is probably what is now the Venture Program.
mint prices keep going up. what if a new $5.00 commemorative gold come out?. what will be the new price?. i think over $400.00.
There are NO $5 gold commemorative coins this year nor were there any last year. Are there any yet that have been approved for the future? I know there have been proposals made.
i know that there were none. i just said if there is. then the price might be that high. since most of mint products move higher.
TeleTrade has relisted the lot, previously unsold, Modern Complete $1 Silver Commem Set 1983P PCGS 69 Date Run (123 Items) I wonder if someone with a big tax return is ready to spring for it beginning tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, March 17th... stay tuned.
