What is this?

    Someone showed this coin to me on Monday and asked what it was.

    The obverse (dated 1890; Alfonso XIII) looks to be Spanish (or Spanish Colonial) but the reverse looks Portuguese.

    Looks like Alfonso XIII but can't find a matching wreath reverse on Numista. If I had my Krause on me I'd look but I don't.

    My first thought was Puerto Rico, but I looked through all of the Alfonso XIII coins but did not find anything matching.

    Yeah, that was my thought as well (Puerto Rico or Philippines) but the reverse isn’t right (looks like Portugal)

    That's a good idea, and would have been something I'd have checked - but unfortunately the coin isn't in my possession (just got sent cell phone pics shown above.)
