Not sure if I should comment yet but here goes ;), It appears flat shelf like but appears to increase the size of the letters so I'm going to guess tripled die.

Every one guesses at multiple choice questions. If you guess, at least you'll have one chance out of six to guess correctly.

Agreed! :D Unfortunately, there is no such option in the poll :banghead:...there's only doubled die :woot: and this quirky little thing referred to as a triple die . Definitely not a pet-peeve of mine :arghh:, but, yeah...

Nice Oregon Trail Memorial commemorative half there (just assuming how nice it is since we don't have a full pic :angelic:)

Wasn’t on the die, planchet jiggled when it was struck. Jiggled tripling. Happened at time of strike and unique to that coin.

    Answer:
    1. PMD scratches. No.

    2. Doubled Die. No.
      0 vote(s)
      0.0%

    3. Triple strike. No. Three different design outlines are visible but if this were a triple strike, the earlier design would have been smashed and not sharp as these.
      2 vote(s)
      9.1%

    4. Triple (:sorry:) Tripled die. Yes. Look closely and you'll see the notches and the triple design is sharp for each layer.

      Extreme machine doubling. No.

    6. Triple die clash. No.

    7. Lighting trick. :smuggrin::D:troll: No.
PS As for the quirky wording  that made the poll appear to have no correct answer for some, it should not have. Decades ago we/me :shame: ignorant professionals incorrectly used "double die" and "triple die" to describe these coins. The younger "error guys" came along and educated us. Old habits die hard when our mind is not in gear.

So, I'm the only one who picked #7 - Lighting Trick. What do all the emoji things mean? Are you saying I was smug or trolling? Or did you include it as a troll on your part? If you include an option, then you should be ready to accept the fact that someone may choose it. And there may be a good reason it is chosen.

My favorite kind of quiz -- one where I'm confident in the WRONG answer, but get an explanation as to why it's wrong. Misplaced confidence is always a bad thing.

@Insider (or anyone), could you give some hints about where to look for the notching? I did look for it, and didn't think I could see it.

My apologies. I like to mislead members as best I can. There is a cruel world of "tooth and claw" out there waiting to prey on the uninformed. I've :troll: been know to post two images of C/F gold (one better made than the other) and in the quiz I ask members to pick out the genuine coin. Oh boy, did I get heat :rage: & :bigtears: for that trick.

So to answer your question, the emoji belong to me. However, I do see your point. Now, why can't it be the lighting?

To see the notches, enlarge the image and look at the bases of the serifs.
