I was watching an old TCM movie a couple nights ago. Biography of Diana Barrymore ( Dorothy Malone plays John Barrymore's daughter ) is desperate and broke. She is refused a free ride on a city bus. After walking many long city blocks in her high heels in Manhattan she is exhausted. Later down the street, she stops at a news stand and is tempted to take this change, but then can't bring herself to steal. 75 cents in silver Roosies and what looks like some War Nickels and worn Buffalo Nickels. Yes, those nickels were quite circulated back in 1958. I spotted a coincidental, perhaps even subliminal message in one frame of the Sunday "Bringing up Father" funnies page.
Love those little nostalgia snapshots. Buffs, war nickels, and other silver were mostly gone from change by the time I got interested (around 1970), but Bringing Up Father was still running in our Sunday comics.
That was 1958 - Too Much Silver and Too Soon for us now. My writeup on the coins in "Too Much, Too Soon": https://www.brianrxm.com/comdir/cnsmovie_toomuchtoosoon.htm
