I am so happy - Just bought a rare one Denmark/Iceland/Faroe Islands Good evening everyone, Today I bought a rare beauty full of history and great design. This is a medal that was made when Frederick VIII of Denmark came to visit Iceland and Faroe Islands in 1907. There are 5 of these medals in Iceland and it is not known how many do exist as no records were made by the royal mint in Denmark. It is designed by S. Lindahl a royal engraver at the time. Frederick VIII was loved by all Icelanders and his visit was a big thing in 1907. People came together to lay roads for him trought the country to Geysit to make his trip better. I think we still drive the same root in Iceland today. It is thought that 10 of these exist so a new gem in my collection.
Research of collectors, All my rare coins come from older collectors. It is very hard to find these coins today with out knowing who is who in coin collecting in Iceland. I have to ask for storys and take it from there. My most prized coin was a rumour I heard when I started.
Silver, I would think the same ammount they always used 0.8000 it is the same size as all 2 Kroner coins made in Denmark Thanks randygeki
Thank you, You can always drop me a line if you are looking into the rare stuff. Thank you Siberian Man I appriciate that
Good for you, Siggi! Thats is a nice medal. And if only ten are known in total, that makes it even more fun and enjoyable.
I think it is safe to say your Icelandic (is that the proper word?) collection is going to be one of the greatest for your country in history....that is, if it isn't already!
Thanks everyone I appriciate the kind words Billy I cant say for sure if it is the biggest but i can say i have coins that are a big part of our history. Thank you
