TO HOLD OR REHOLD, THAT IS THE QUESTION

Sorry but that fingerprint ruins the coin for me, I didn't notice it earlier. Unfortunately, I don't really think NGC will re-holder it for you with that fingerprint on it and I truly doubt they can remove it. good luck with it!

I know a guy who does something with these. I think there's something. He told me once. He collects fatties. I'll message him today and find out what it is he does

 

Yep, to me the dark tone just might turn a grader off some, not that they would take up a side.

I don't like seeing fingerprints on coins but, it seems the grading services don't care. I've seen many very high-grade coins with fingerprints on them in newer holders. So, I must assume they were there when the coins were put in a slab. I avoid any coin with fingerprints on them. They drive me crazy.

 

So the prints on the Boone when slabbed, were not visible and are now coming out with the toning. Would you all agree the grader would have seen them when being handled and graded lower when slabbed ?

 

I don’t like fingerprints on my coins at all but the truth is a fingerprint can show up after the coin was slabbed. It’s not nice but it can and does happen.

 

Not at all. They only become visible after time. Take a shiny cent from a new roll. Place your thumb on the coin and press as hard as you like. Now look at that coin and let us know if you can see a thumbprint. Even with a magnifying glass you can’t see it. Now let it sit and time how long it takes for it to show up on the coin. Results will be faster if exposed to heat and/or sunlight.

 

yes, I understand transfer, as I said, I'm the curious one as to who might have handled it through time and who the print would be from.

 

Lol I doubt the FBI data base could tell you that. But when I have a nice coin in my hand I do wonder the same thing. This happens with every ancient coin I handle, have or even see for that matter.

I don’t think that coin will cross to PCGS in an MS-65 holder. I would leave it alone. There are a number of issues with this piece. I think that the grade and sticker are maxed out in this holder.

I didn’t know this was a guessing game. How exciting. I believe that fingerprint is Adolph Hilter’s. If memory serves me correctly he was gifted one of these when it was issued.

I doubt very much that the grader noticed the fingerprint at all but I would send it back to them and see if they can help you with it, maybe they can remove it, idk. All I can say about fingerprints is they are hell to remove and it may not be possible and I speak from experience!
