This coin is up for auction. The placement of the mint mark is in a different location when compared to coins on PCGS. Is this coin genuine, altered or counterfeit?
I don’t know the series well enough, but it looks suspicious to me. Could it be a punched, cc mintmark, added after the fact?
Here's an NGC graded example that looks very close. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3339520772...id=10044&mkevt=1&customid=cc&tmp=no#itemTitle
Holding a 5-7X on the screen may assist in identifying a genuine whizzed and tooled and puttied piece.
I meant to also mention I suspect this was a Jewelry piece, but I got distracted by her asking for lipstick money again. It really annoys me saying "no" all the time. Some people don't learn.
Then state what they are and help the member asking the question. It is not going to offend anybody if you have a different opinion. I will even volunteer to be your huckleberry, and help the member out, for 3 things: 1) I stated whizzed. Is it? 2) I stated tooled. Is it? 3) I stated puttied. Is it?
I agree Dave, the mint mark of the coin shown in this offer is very similar to the one I was looking at. Thanks to and all who responded.
I don't see anything that leads me to think it's a fake. It has obviously been physically cleaned. Mintmarks were punched into the working dies before they were sent from Phil .to the branch mints. Nothing unusual about varying mm placements.
Dynoking, Read my post again: I posted: "So far IMO, there are only three things "off" in this thread." I'm not the forum police; however, I wish more folks here would do what I try to do. I don't comment on things I don't know about. It is especially silly when the member writes that they know nothing about ______ and then gives an opinion. How can you have an intelligent opinion about something you know nothing about? Another thing. Anyone can say something they know nothing about looks "off." If you are going to post a worthless comment WHY NOT EXPLAIN WHAT EXACTLY LOOKS "OFF" to you at the least? That may elicit more useful comments as has happened in this thread. over. Carry on.
Yes my response was silly as I was leaning towards counterfeit for being not certified. This coin is a high end AU to possible low MS example.Incliding it might be a details coin also. But even as being the most common CC gold liberty eagle date its a $2,000 coin minimum.Especially for gold(not a junk piece) why not get it certified?not all coins need to.But I do think this coin is slab worthy and if certified the coin would bring much more money most likely.
Geez,if you have something to say, just say it. Snide remarks, and gamesmanship are poor teaching tools. If you know so much, then why not bestow the wisdom you’ve garnered upon us mortals.
I was leaning towards counterfeit for being not certified. The first red flag! Including it might be a details coin also. The second abet smaller red flag! But even as being the most common CC gold liberty eagle date it's a $2,000 coin minimum. Re-read first red flag! Bravo Master P!
Agreed. But your first response was just as vague. Easy poppa... ...you're the big dog watching over the pups. Gently guide with your knowledge...
Hey Mo...whadhe say, whadhe say? nyuknyuknyuk. Shaddap...come over here.... OWOWOW!!!! Don't hit me. My mind wanders...I was mentally visualizing Mo, Curly and Larry having this conversation in a coin shop. I'm old. Make allowances for that.
