    Hello Everyone,

Been a while since I have been a member, 90's.
    "time flies."

I have a quarter I would like to find out about.
My wife found this couple month's ago. It is an 1988 Quarter with P mint mark. Everything seems ok the coin except one area......
The Vesa "IN GOD WE TRUST" is not there. There are no traces of it even being struck onto the coin.

We have searched all over and are unable to get any information.

Would appreciate any thoughts or insight about the coin.

    Thank You,
    Mark and Deanna
    Have a wonderful day!

Try to crop and rotate your photos. Then click Full image. This will help you get better answers. upload_2022-4-23_9-6-21.jpeg

Could be a greaser but I also noticed the area where IGWT would be looks lighter and smoother indicating the coin may have been altered. Not sure how it happened, but it is an interesting quarter! I would probably keep it!!!

The area has light tones. I think that when I look closely I can see a partial N G and the W.

From the photo provided, it appears the rim is damaged at the exact location you expect to see IGWT, so I'm saying PMD.

I would like to see clearer photos of the area @mark read
I don't see any evidence in the fields that say this was altered unless the whole coin was altered. The rim and light haziness over the area that IGWT were could be just that a struck thru grease or compacted die fill.

From the photos provided I think this coin has been altered, probably by an atheist. I’m calling it damaged as I think the motto was removed.
