Found this guy with the quarters in my register at work today, there's what looks like a strike through error on the date, with the first digit very visible inside the indent. There's some copper showing on the reverse too and some big dents in the rim of the obverse, don't know what thats all about. What do you guys think?
Thank you for the response, can you explain? What kind of damage would make an indent that large while at the same time leaving no raised surface around the damage, while also leaving an outline of the date it's covering? I'm not doubting you but from what I've learned most damage wipes out the coin design while also leaving a raised surface around it like a crater.
It looks mostly PMD now that I enlarged the Pic.. The dated area is strange to say the least now that the "1" is still visible. Strike through Error possibly?? Awaiting more answers.
I don't see any raised metal around the area by the date. That spot looks like a strike through error to me
