Hey all I saw these pictures of a brass 1967 sovereign that recently passed through the salesroom at Baldwin. It was identified there as a pattern and saw a bit more information on the coin as it weighs 4.64 gm. and diameter 22.05 mm. This coin came from an advanced sovereign collection.
I think this coin may well be a counterfeit but would have to consider it an off metal strike or mint sport. The denticles (or whatever you call the boxlike borders to obverse and reverse look) very strange to me.
I collect 20th C. off metal strikes of GB coins and generally of better quality than this whether official or errors.

Is the silvering just toning? Or was this silvered before the strike?

The whole coin is brass and the center oxidizes more golden color usually after being touched by finger or hand.

I would agree that it's a fake - not very high quality for a pattern.
