Hey team, This sellers coins keep crossing my paths but I'm skeptical, particularly the silver coins just have a mushy/soapy look to them. https://www.ebay.com/str/sss88sss Maybe the mushiness is just from them recently digging the coins out of the ground and or over cleaning? They have coins selling for good prices... but maybe too good. Here's an example of one that makes me leary. Mushy, has craters and is that a seem along the top?: And here's a different coin from a different time... but has the same issues: I'm awful at spotting fakes due to the fact that if I have any doubt I assume it's fake. I guess my only reservations are that they are not on FORVM'S naughty list, they're from England, they do have coins that are clearly legit and they have some coins that I'm interested in. Am I being harsh and they're probably just fine or am I being willingly naive and they're fakes for sure?
I agree with @Victor_Clark . sss88sss has lots of fakes. He is on this fakeseller list: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/fakesellers.html
Not my forte, but it certainly doesn't look real. The fact that Victor and Warren say so as well, makes me feel pretty good in my assertion
Much appreciated! I should've checked your list first. Bookmarked and will be used with regularity. The coin that had me jazzed was this Celtic imitation AR Macedonian shield coin that I've never come by nor seen in that style: The reverse was what have it away for me. With my recent addition to RPC of an early empirial MSC I was feeling lucky, which the Greeks did not see as a good thing. Thanks for the heads up team
Definitely fake. If you look at all the coins, they are all "engraved" with the same thick, rough, cartoony lines, and the metal and fabric are all identical. Lastly, the designs all appear to be fantasy ones - I'd challenge anyone to find something similar within a standard reference text. I find UK EBay to be infested with these fake coins. It's too bad, at one time there were some great deals. Caveat emptor.
