    Interesting. I've seen individual dropped letters before, but never a case where a whole series of letters has dropped at the same time.

    Awesome, indeed. It may be that you have a massive dropped filling. In fact, it's more than likely seeing as the obverse was struck through a heavy layer of compacted die fill. There are several other sources of normally-oriented incuse letters. These include a thin layer of struck metal that is initially struck against a blank planchet.
