    Hello everyone,
Today I received my first ever 2022 P Quarter with the new Washington Bust and with the showing of Maya Angelou on the Reverse..
    Exciting! :woot:

I recently purchased a 5oz jar of e Z est Coin Cleaner solution. I decided to clean my new quarter since it was a bit grimy.

I was impressed. It cleaned it up quick and good.

I never clean my Coins except Metal Detected ones. Only coppers never silver or anything of value. ;)

But they have yucky germs.. They need to be cleaned! :yuck:

Common sense should be used when deciding to clean a coin.. It's silly when some say you never clean any coins

eZest is what people refer to when they talk about "dipping" a coin. I've used it many times successfully and many times unsuccessfully. Don't over dip. Some people dilute it before using.

Your dip in Ezest made the luster a bit lifeless, every dip removes some of the Luster.
The earring and neckline are the first to show wear on this issue.

    Depends..

Metal detected finds - Soap and water
Important coins in a collection - Don't clean
Circulated coins such as my quarter - eZest

    IMO

    @Pickin and Grinin
I noticed the less luster issue..
I just did this quarter because it was my first.
Unfortunately it had dark grime on it and it looked bad. I should of taken a picture before I dipped it so you could of seen what I mean..
Either way I knew it was just worth face.

Black grime like this? I try to use a toothbrush. Vinegar n salt help but I'm unaware if it causes luster loss or further damage. How else can that grime be taken off safely and what causes it? Also iv had luck with just warm water and magic erasers.

You are inflicting more damage with those methods. A bit of a soak in pure acetone first might do the trick. If that doesn't work, then other methods to employ might be what Paddy did, but surely not the abrasive tooth brush (unless you're an 'ancient' fellow). :)

A bath in water, no rubbing.
Next is a bath in acetone, no rubbing.
    Stop there.

Acetone is good for non-copper is my understanding.

For copper, while I've never done one, the verdicare or verdigris, or whatever it's called can/does help with the green stuff. There is a thread here about that, apparently it was out of stock for some time.

It will brighten up the coin but if left on the coin too long it will eat the luster. You’ll end up with a dull, lack luster coin.

My husband had brought a roll of quarters and he stated this is all he had at store. All 2022-Ps. If you would like another, more than welcome.

For "gunk" on a coin, try soaking in distilled water; if that does nothing, try acetone. For some stuff, xylene works best. E-Z-Est is for removing toning/tarnish, not "gunk".

On the other hand, without "before" pictures, I could be completely wrong.
