If you have a collection with a firm retail value of $3,000, I’d say two grand Woolf be the minimum. But I agree with others who say to break up the collection for sale.
No doubt. I know you and I sir disagree on TPGS at times, but I also remember the bad old days where elderly were sold whizzed morgans at 65 prices, but old stock they held were offered pennies for. This hobby has never had an illustrious reputation unfortunately. I agree if you don't know what you are doing and spending more than a few bucks on a coin slabs are the way to go. Now, which standard they use, First Day slabs, autographs, MS70 modern BS, etc I have some problems with, but never for classic coins, authenticity, etc.
I am far from a pro as many know here, but on a very serious note, working in banking all my life, find someone here in cointalk to talk to and trust. Many are looking for many collections including Lincolns. As one said, the individual route or groupings of few may be better. Try not to sell all all at once. I know it’s here or there, but someone is here that has been collecting a long time that I feel would give you a fair price or prices. God Bless!
I guess the mods decided this was getting too close to a "want to sell" post and edited the original list out -- but I read it as "a graded 95 [that is, 1995] ASE", not "95 graded ASEs".
Someone please PM me and tell me what was moderated in this thread! Looks like some juicy coins were edited out. ETA: now I see Jeff's post just above! If it was just ASEs don't bother
Lots of wheat cents. A Dansco 7070, which is a US Type set, which may have included a trade dollar. I think there may have been some other album, but ain't sure.
Thank you one and all for your honest input. I truly appreciate everyone of you. to the moderators…. I apologize if it appeared I was trying to make it seem like I was trying to sell these coins through this post. This was absolutely not my intention. I was only providing details to the story. I had a feeling If I hadn’t given a general idea of what I was attempting to sell, that would be the first question most would ask. I think I will sit down, and as suggested, break the sets apart and list them. I’ve bought and sold on this site many times, so I will start here. If There is no luck, I’ll seek out other places. Thank you one and all again.
Dont forget all the super fun stories of dealers bragging they were able to get gold coins for face or double face value. Or my personal favorite when you see dealers cracking out details coins to sell as straight graded. I always cringe a bit when people will blindly tell people avoid the internet and go to your local store or show when by far the scummiest things Ive seen have been at venues like that. Its not to say every dealer is bad (theres definitely some great ones) but enough are you have to be skeptical, also just because they have a big name or wrote a book doesnt make them beyond reproach either.
It definitely would have been and honestly without knowing it would have been really hard to do much but offer sympathy. I've honestly never seen posts get edited like that for simply mentioning the name of a coin type before. I dunno if thats new, someone got over zealous, or its because you plan to list them here, but that seems a bit heavy handed given that you didnt lists prices or even approximate grades and literally just mentioned a coin type
