Free Gift from Paddy54

So today I got an envelope in the mail. Actually I got two envelopes in the mail... but one of them is from a member here, who also loves Seated and Bust coins and varieties. We often talk in PMs and at one point he offered to send me three Black Beauty nickels, as well as a couple other coins free of charge. I gladly accepted his offer and just got his coins in the mail.

Here are the three Black Beauties -



I didn’t own any before, so when I first took these out, I thought they may have just been toned a bit weird, but comparing to a typical modern nickel provided a great deal of contrast and showed that these planchets were indeed abnormally colored due to improper heating. All three have original mint luster, and some minor issues, but then again I wasn’t exactly expecting Gem UNCs here. These are very interesting coins that I am very excited to add to my collection!

Paddy also mentioned a few “extras” that he had sent -


Two proof Jefferson nickels, and two BU Wheat Cents. The 1936 will definitely be an upgrade in my Dansco, and I believe the 1955 will be as well. I don’t have my Dansco with me at college though, so they’ll have to wait a bit. (Yeah, no way am I bringing my 1909-S VDB to a college dorm room.)

As for the other envelope, that one wasn’t free. It was a bad picture Ebay auction I won for $16 + shipping, and here’s how it turned out:



Despite some issues, can’t go wrong at this level of detail for this price. This is my new “type coin” for legend obverse, no arrows.

Thank you Paddy for the coins! I greatly enjoy them and will make great additions to my collection. The community here on Cointalk truly cannot be beat.

Congratulations! So happy for you. I know what they are but have never seen one in real life. Yeap, @Paddy54 is something else. He's sent me so many coins, I've lost count. Probably over 2 dozen? I transferred several to DIY slabs. Here's three. (I've self-slabbed more, but I'm not home to take pics.)





In addition to @Paddy54, @Beardigger , @Inspector43 , and @lordmarcovan have all also given me free stuff. I hope I didn't forget anybody.

 

I appreciate all the kind words....for myself as well the other members whom names were mention. We do what we do for many reasons. As for myself I like to think that I am somehow repaying back to the hobby ,that over the years I was on the reciving end.
As a YN who was given or gifted coins for again many reasons.....but the number 1 reason....is we love what we do!
We love everything about the hobby....esspecially when we can do a small act of kindness to enstill the same passion we posess for the hobby.

Needless to say when there are members like Jeff and Flip.
Two young men who are respectful, and polite....and who are very smart , that appreciate the little things.
Both willing to jump in a topic or lend a hand to other members here on the forum.

Lastly again I appreciate your kind words.....but its the YN's like the two I have mentioned here is the future of our hobby.
These are the collectors who will continue for years after my generation is gone.
These are who will be preserving our passion for evey day on ....that the Sun rises and sets.
And these are reason one gives what they can....to plant a seed....and watch it grow.
Both of you two Flip and Jeff as well some others we appreciate you! For the little things you do to help, support, and mostly just for being a part of one of the greatest hobbies ever....collecting money.
