@Insider You seem to be an authority. If a person were to collect Barbie Dolls what would be a good starting point?
Not an authority but have been around two very serious collectors (dolls in original, unopened boxes - such a shame). I gave one of them a gift titled: Barbie, her life & times and you would have thought I gave her a $20 Liberty! It is a first edition from 1987 and featured the BillyBoy collection. There may be lots of other reference books published before or since but this is like the Red Book for coins - an overview that will get you in rather deeply. Yes, I read it first. So buy the book before the doll! Buy the best condition you can afford. Study current selling prices on the Internet. Join a Barbie collectors group (there is probably a Barbie chat forum). They know more than I care to about Barbie collecting. Finally, I'd forget the dolls and buy gold and silver at this time. Hope that gets you started.
Please keep us informed (perhaps start a thread) of the books (?) you find and especially your first Barbie! It will be a good break from coins. I'll bet there are at leasta dozen Barbie collectors with some connection to CT members.
Hmmm OK then I'll just show my mother's collectionbelieve me if I did own them(if that time will come)I'll trade them for double eagles anytime if they actually are worth some real money!!!!most are in the box untouched.
I hate to be a bummer, but the reason why I don't participate - though I would love to - is because I really need to see both sides of the coin before I make any educated guesses.
@JCro57, posted:"I hate to be a bummer, but the reason why I don't participate - though I would love to - is because I really need to see both sides of the coin before I make any educated guesses." That's a bummer. Also really too bad as you could teach me and others lots of stuff and especially make sure I'm not posting misinformation. Hopefully, you will at least monitor my posts. I for one don't need to see an entire coin to ID a specific characteristic found on a small part of our coins. I post to give others a chance to learn to do the same. Unfortunately, some don't appreciate the crap I throw in to get them to think for themselves.
All overstrikes are double strikes but all double strikes are not overstrikes. Just like all thoroughbreds are horses but all horses are not thoroughbreds.
okay, not a counterfeit. You can't counterfeit a fantasy coin. And that is what this is a fantasy coin
