I've seen this at a very credible auction house for sale currently at £540 plus fees is it worth a bid?

I would say yes. Is it "for sale" or at auction?

 

It's a beaut, but if you're not sure it's worth the price I would recommend waiting and watching others at auction before diving in wallet first.

 

That's a superb new style owl. I would expect that it will hammer at substantially over the current bid.

Yeah, though I don't collect ancients, like robinjojo, I also like the owl.

In fact, both sides look so good, could this coin possibly be a fake?

I would love to own that coin, but I would not try to buy it. I would never have seen it without this thread so I would ensure the OP was no longer interested before making any move on it. Besides, it's probably going to sell well past what I would want to pay.

 

After all this frenzy around it, I would be interested to know how much it will sell for in the end.
