I've added my first coin to RPC and you can bet it's a one of a kind MSC

Last week I scored a rarity not listed in RPC (Roman Provincial Coins). I looked and searched everywhere and couldn't find another of the type. It would be superfluous to say I didn't know the type existed. But even similar types (left and right facing horses without star above and 1 left facing with star above, that they didn't even have a picture of) total 10!
Never seen the type online, at auction etc.
Scrolling through fleebay, as there aren't any auctions getting me excited and low and behold,
    tom-and-jerry-love.gif
    Something new appears:kiss:
They only list one similar example and don't even have a picture... except my horse is facing right.
The seller noted the symbol above the horse but still assigned it to a different type without star above:

    Singular example

    Here's the brand new RPC:

Adding to the excitement is the fact that I believe these were the coins Macedonia made while the emperors fought and sorted it out during the year of the 4 (don't want to put the image of the WRONG guy on your provinces coins).
    featured-year-of-the-four-emperors-paintings.jpg
Listed directly next to this type are the Victory on globe MSCs. The image of victory on the globe was a hallmark during this time period ( @Alegandron has a cherry example) and the shield style used is similar to the ones used with the emperors.

Here's a couple versions of those:

Pseudo-autonomous issue, 1st century AD. (Bronze, 17 mm, 4.97 g), Beroia. Macedonian shield. Rev. MΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ Nike standing to left on globe, holding wreath with the extended right hand and palm branch with the left. SNG Cop. 1331. SNG ANS.-. RPC -. Ex Marc Breitsprecher purchased Jan 2022

And one after Vespasian had picked up all the pieces:

    Vespasian
MAKEDON. Koinon . ( 69 - 79 AD). Ae. Obv: Laureate head left . Makedonian Shield. RPC 333. SNG COP. 1336. Rare. Condition: Extremely Fine. Weight: 8.82 g. Diameter: 23 mm. Purchased from: Papillon

Whether my hypothesis is wrong, right or even provable aside I just added a little more clarity on the coins of Macedon during the early imperial period in Rome.

Have any of you added to RPC, have any unique coins, I'll never kick an MSC out of a thread of mine;) or anything on topic:woot:

Way cool, @Ryro! You've contributed to the body of Roman Provincial literature! WTG!

I had a similar experience, as you know. This one may not look like much but it's the only known example. It too is now the "plate coin" at RPC:

    Faustina II, AD 147-175.
    Roman provincial Æ 5.84 g, 22.0 mm, 7 h.
    Bithynia-Pontus, Apamea.

Rev: UЄNU[S ... C]ICA dd, Venus seated right, head left, on dolphin swimming left, resting right arm on dolphin, uncertain object in left hand.
    Refs: RPC IV.1, 11815 (temporary); Waddington RG --; BMC --; Sear --; Mionnet Suppl 5 --; Lindgren --; Wiczay --.
Notes: Previously unpublished. Obverse die match to Waddington RG, pl. XXXIX.1, which has a Neptune reverse type.

Very cool @Ryro, congrats on getting that published and on a unique new pickup.

I can share my RPC “plate” coin of Vespasian from Antioch, though I can’t take credit for submitting this one.

Separately, in the picture you posted with the 4 emperors, maybe it’s just me but it really looks like Vitellius is a farmer wearing blue overalls and I can’t unsee that now:):)

    Congratulations, @Ryro!

I must say I had exactly the same thought as @Shea19: who's the hillbilly in photo # 3 in the blue denim overalls with his undershirt showing?

Ps, and like you I understand that my coin is both humble yet substantial like yours:shame:
@Shea19 the OX neck of that showstopper Vespasian is a reminder why nobody the Flavian dynasty lasted so long.

And is that a pink over the shoulder bolder holder on old, rugged and reliable Galba??? :shifty:
I've always liked guys like Galba and Pertinax.

I will be sure to do so, next time! I'm sorry I offended you, @ominus1. All my knowledge comes from Deliverance. And Winter's Bone. What would be the appropriate terminology for a person such as the fine gentleman in overalls?

My only claim to such rarity is an unpublished variety of an Agathokles bronze, but it's Greek and I never contacted Wildwinds.

And that dress is a nightmare, @ominus1 ! If I was a girl, no way I'd dance with you dressed like that!:D

Congrats on that unique MSC! Always cool when we're able to adopt the only specimen of a coin type to survive the ages, and even cooler when we can contribute it for posterity to a database like RPC.

This Commodus from Philippopolis appears to be the only example of its type. It was unrecorded prior to my sending it over to RPC.

    Commodus - Philippopolis AE30 Hercules 4182.JPG COMMODUS

I have a few I should submit to RPC. Here's one:

The nearest is 7806, which lacks the altar. Not sure if this would get a new number or just be recorded as a variety.
