Wow, what a buy, can't beat the price. Good condition natural toning and could use a bit of attention but be very careful. Thanks for sharing your win-win!
I haven't been to my LCS for a while but I believe they ask somewhere between $27 and $29 American for random Peace dollars. You paid $1.50 US over spot which is a pretty crazy price.
To me/my thoughts based on photos, it's an OK coin and maybe better in hand, but as others have expressed quite positive comments on coin and price, I must say that I would not have paid that price for the coin. But hey, to each their own and if you like it, that's what counts...!
@acan451 …AU50 is $37.00 @ NGC, but I think this is XF40/$35.00USD…Current melt is $19.92. $27.00CAD = $21.41USD. If you verify a desirable VAM its value could be higher to the right buyer. Good pick up…Spark
@acan451 as @Paddy54 said, you may want to explore VamWorld (link: http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1923-S_VAMs) as there is at least the presence of a Spike to the right of the Eagle's Shoulder, but the photos aren't sharp enough, and can't be magnified enough to make a detailed analysis--you will have to do that yourself. For the 1923-S there are 42 VAMs listed that have at least (1) one Spike. As far as a potential value to VAM collectors, this is NOT a VAM 1I (Elite 30) which both PCGS and NGC would grade and Label (when you pay, IMO, their exorbitant fee) that maybe could command a slight premium above the commercial grade valuation. If you do the research yourself on VamWorld and want it graded and attributed with the VAM on the Label, ANACS will do this for $9 extra.
Current exchange is 79 cents or $21.40 US for $27 CAN. Current melt value of Peace dollar= $20.02. Acetone may get rid of the black organic deposits, but could also expose that crack as damage. I don't know about the VAM. If the coin is not damaged, it's around $30. I suspect it is damaged and it's worth melt, but the price is good considering silver has been going up since the (wink, wink) you know.
