    Here is a FTR coin from Julian as caesar. First series: no M behind bust
    obv: IMP IULIANUS NOB CAES, rev: FEL TEMP REPARATIO
    Lyon mint GSLG RIC 8 nr 195, 1.48 gr ; 16 mm
    IMG_0048a_800_408.jpg
    Does the soldier have an arrow in his leg, or is it a branch?
    Does he have a fishtail?
    Look at the falling rider's head, like a lizard from a sf movie.
    Please feel free to show your Julianus coins.
    Thank you.

    The reverse looks barbarous to me, although the obverse appears to be in official style. I have an even funkier unofficial Falling Horseman...

    My nummus of Julian with bull reverse. For anyone interested in his story, there are a couple of books I would recommend... The Emperor Julian , by Robert Browning and Julian the Apostate by G.C. Bowersock.

    nice example of an unofficial coin John. I rather think that my copy may be a double strike of an earlier coin. We will never know .
    Thanks for showing

    A few of my favorite Julian II coins. I have a bull but it’s ugly and a few other VOT reverse mints but unphotographed.

    @Orange Julius
    I like the beard on the Sirmium coin and the crazy placement of the "X"s on the Siscia.
    I need to get me a bearded Julian II.

    Thanks! Sorry all for the image dump but… I’ve been on a passive mission to get a Julian VOT coin from each mint (I think I’m missing 3, Cyzicus, Lyons, Constantinople… I don’t think they were issued from Trier). I don’t go out looking for them, they follow me home I swear! I try not to spend big or get in bidding wars over them ( so quality is variable) but if they’re going at a good price, I snag em when I can and get excited to share them!

    If the soldier was wounded, I'd say it was by the horse's tail. Especially when the soldier has a knee up on the horse, the 'bottle brush' tail can extend to the right.
