Its sort of funny when one gets remarks on purchases esspecially when most have you peged into buying only 1 or 2 series.... I got that from a well known member last week. Anyway Ive been hunting a 1851 o US silver lll piece. In fact found one ,purchased and returned it had issues. So wanting to find something that would fill the void of the returned 1851 o. I dont mind buying a detailed coin depending on the issue. Cleaning is one I cannot deal with if its been harshly cleaned. I had found this specimen and knew yeah it's has an issue.....but show me another one. So until I do find another one ...better....I give you the rarest die marriage cap bust half dime . LM-12 R-6 1829 V-10.
Nice grab, @Paddy54. I agree it's the LM-12 even though I can't see the extra serif by C1. Hidden behind the circulation grime, I'm sure. What is the damage on the reverse? While it is an R-6, it is by no means the rarest of the Capped Bust Half Dimes. There are a number of R-7s and two R-8s. Here is my Details 1829 LM-12. This from the McCloskey auction in February. I have included some of my photos with the relevant pickup points for anyone interested in this kind of minutiae. And this thread goes to emphasize some of the commentary on a recent thread about when buying details coins may make sense for some collectors at some times.
The rarest by Dr.Valintine I should of said ....it was a stick pin or button... and the pin or loop broke off.. I did see the C serifs under the crud rev F ,and knew it was a rare marriage I decided to preserve it it works find in the collection....unless a better one turns up.
And Again to echo sometimes you take what you can get.....would I prefer better hell yeah....will this do yeppers...better than nada.
Well this arrived today and I'm very pleased as in hand its au details. I rather doupt if another one will come my way.
