1994-D Nickel question?

Hi all. I have taken several shots of this nickel. The edge etc. The copper color is puzzling being I cannot find this year stating anything about copper or Penny. Could be damage or tampered but the rim and edges throw me off. Thanks!

Environmental exposure. It might have been in the ground for awhile.

 

Looks copper plated. The nickel color shows through at the rims.

 

Looks like somebody experimented with electroplating or chemical plating of the coin.

ED. I'd say it's been in contact with dirt for a while. I bet @paddyman98 could show you dozens like it that he dug up.
Here's one of mine.

 

Nickels are made of Cupro-Nickel. So are Clad coins.The Copper can tone of exposed to the elements.
