Hi all! I bid on a couple of lots today at the current Roma Numismatics auction (I wasn't planning to, but some of the group lots were surprisingly cheap). However, when I tried to place a bid on my favourite lot (2021, for that SWEET Salonina SPQR antoninianus), with around 10 seconds left, a message came up saying that the lot had "been sold to the commision bidder" (or something along those lines). The maximum bid I placed (£260) was higher than the current bid (£240) by one increment, but the lot sold for £240 - even though my max was higher. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I haven't had anything like this happen before. I won't pretend to be an expert on auctions, but this seems a little unusual. Thanks!
The seconds timer isn't perfectly accurate, depending on when you last refreshed the page. Probably your bid just came too late.
Oof, that's what I suspected. The winner probably had a higher bid than me anyway... I like to think...
