I read something about the US mint stopping the production of pennies. Anyone know anything about this? What I found says that the US mint will stop producing pennies on April 1rst 2023. April fools day. But it's also National One Cent Day. ???

Not really a joke... they planned to quit penny production in 2023 but then decided against it... the 1st article you posted was an april fools joke about them changing their minds...

The Mint makes cents. Sometimes, that is. Other times, they don't make any cents at all. LOL

The second link in the OP looks to have been based on the story in the first link!
It refers to the "Early April" story.
To my knowledge and to my own mistakes the mint hadn't ever planned on ending production of the cent (US PENNY) its not really up to the mint, its up to government legislation. Lots of fall out from that satire article, and it gets re-dated and recirculated about every year.
Now, I do know for fact that there has been on more than one occasion where certain members of congress has brought forth bills to end production of the Cent, but thus far none has ever passed a vote.

I guess I'll have to write my Congressmen/women and suggest a no-brainer (so it probably will not be considered) to stop production of circulating cents but continue to produce bronze business strikes and bronze proofs for collectors. Win-win situation in that the US Mint will stop losing money on the circulating cents and make money by selling the bronze business strikes and proofs for a profit, all the while keeping the Lincoln cent alive and well. In that way we will also be rid of the zincolns!

Yes but the new coins started circulating before then, 15 Feb 1971 was when the official change over happened and Believe that was the day the old coins became obsolete.
