Hi all, here is a wonderful coin that as best as can be determined is unknown otherwise and NOT in Bull or ESC. This was struck on the engraving by Kruger- Gray in 1926 in the runup to the "new" coinage due in 1927 and is not the final design albeit IMHO more attractive than that chosen. Compare this to the chosen design which I will get a picture soon:

And here is the pattern & closer to the actual florin released in 1927, also apparently of great rarity (please note the very rough planchet preparation that evidently the TPGs use for grading - IMO this is where the two major TPGs have it quite wrong: upload_2022-4-6_23-2-35.jpeg

    Both are cool patterns.

Would not paste, so here is an ordinary proof reverse:

Nice - do you have links to the PCGS/NGC pages?

Umm, I can get the first by Cert # on slab, the others I will try if possible to get the coin numbers of.
First coin cert. # is 44094432

Thanks - shame it's not photographed on their site.

And how does the 1927 differ from the final design? I had a look at a circulation 1927 and couldn't see anything obvious.

That coin is being imaged now so should be up in the next week. Well, if my eyes have not totally failed then some of the fine differences may be exact shape and size of devices and small changes in lettering, etc.

Interesting pieces, I have two ¿patterns? of Uruguayan coins, with a larger size than the one finally minted, and on the reverse side they have the same legend MODEL

Hmmm, possibly of the Royal Mint - they used that in place of obverse design on many patterns of the 1920s through ‘40s.

I could be wrong but side to side the matte florin of 1927 and the matte pattern reverse seem to show slightly larger lettering on the latter and of course what appears to be a much heavier application of the matte process. The 1926 pattern has of course much larger devices and sword as one of the cross pieces in center.

Just sad that I can not get the Edward VIII florin, although I do have the pattern reverse coin of 1937. My goal was to have the best 20th C. florin collection. I want the Tyrant on bended knee! LOL, he might be on this denomination.
