I was looking at this coin yesterday and saw a number of things I had somehow missed in the last 30 or so years. I guess I was busy and didn’t take the time to look at them properly like I do now that I’m retired. Being retired has its advantages, one of them being I do what I want, when I want for as long as I want. LOL

A PCGS graded 1886 Morgan Dollar as a MS-63. It was slabbed long ago as I bought it this way for just under $30.00. You can’t do that in today’s market. It should also grade higher but it will stay in this slab for now.

I can’t find any info on this clash. It comes off the N on the reverse.

This clash was easy to find, just look to the left of the top leaves in the wreath.

A die crack from the neck through the first 3 digits in the date.

Another die crack starting at the rim to the right of M, going through the star and continuing across the field ending in the hair curls above the last star.

Another die crack on the obverse from the lower right of the second U in PLURIBUS and ending at the top of Liberty’s cap.

A great looking coin with a number of minor die issues (clashes and cracks) that I can’t imagine how I missed them all these years.

Any information on the clashes would be nice if you know of them.

I think this die pair struck more coins than any other in the Morgan series.
The old VAM-1 VNA-LDS4 maybe LDS5. Now re-classified as VAM-6B. One of my favorites. :)

Check out VAMWorld.com and look at the 1886. As above, it looks like a VAM-6B.

On the obverse, check out the clash in front of her neck and also directly in front of her upper lip. I think you can even see one behind her lower bonnet.

I saw the clash in front of her nose and lips and her nose (twice) on the reverse. The clash I can’t find anything on is on the two lines coming off of the N in the motto, my 4th photo.

It’s from her neck. Sometimes it’s one line, sometimes it two. When the one by the wreath is double, so will that one. I am assuming a double clash.

Thank you. It’s not in my Red Book either but the double nose clash is. Thank you very much!
