Scored myself a Basiliscus monogram in a lot from numismatiklanz on Ebay. Came with a decent enough Leo, Lion, CON & a barbarous(?) Johannes in the name of Theo. II that has some wear but enough character to make up for it. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but few of them are & it's nice enough for the likes of me. Re anyway, Ob is toast; you can just make out the outline of a portrait in-hand.

Nice snag, I agree with your ID.

    My semissis:

And a Ricimer monogram I'm fond of:

I love cherrypicking, but I still haven't managed to cherrypick a rare 5th c. monogram!

Here's a Rome Theo II issued under Johannes, they're usually pretty crude...

Nice job spotting that one - I looked it up and you got a great deal!

I won one last year as well - ugly thing but undeniably rare Basiliscus AE4 monogram.jpg

You made out TWICE! Awesome find and equally awesome that you actually got the coin from Lanz! They are notorious for "lost shipment"...

Here is my Basiliscus. Not from Emporium mind you :cigar:. Doesn't guarantee it is genuine of course but looks and feels fine to me. Obverse could be better but the monogram is very nice.

That is a BEAUTIFUL Theo. II! I've got some with a nice Ob or nice Re, but not the combo. Wonderful coin.
