A week of metal detecting in West Virginia

For my spring break from college, I spent a week in West Virginia and put in several hours of metal detecting. Here are my best coin finds:

1873 Indian cent - This is my new oldest coin found with a metal detector. It was a couple inches down in front of an old granary building on my relatives' property.

1905 Barber dime - Found in a yard where I found a 1907 Barber dime last year.

1909 Barber dime - Found a couple feet from the last Barber dime. I imagine the two dimes were dropped at the same time as a "coin spill." Check out the silver rim in that piece of dirt!

Barber dime duo after rinsing with water. Both of these are Philadelphia mint. The rust staining is due to the fact that these coins were sitting near a big piece of rusty iron.

Sweet! I have my own little WV honey hole in the east-central part, found an 1887 Nickel as my oldest find in an old coal town.

Nice! The coins I posted here were found in Greenbrier County on two farm properties. Here's a nickel I found last year in the "Barber dime yard":

I'm so talented that I managed to scrape both sides of the coin while digging it up. In my defense, it was kind of weirdly positioned in some roots.

Nice finds. Sure beats my usual "pop-top" finds. LOL

Thanks. I find plenty of pull tabs and other junk, too. Gotta dig those pull tab/nickel signals to find the gold! Old coins are probably about 1% of what I dig up.
