I finally have a Draped Bust Half Dollar! I've been working a lot lately, and won an auction that didn't go too crazy (in the $250 neighborhood) for an 1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar (Details - some scratches, especially on the reverse at 9:00) - I've been wanting one for a looong time. This example appears to be a "Pointed 6, Stemless" variety based on my research. I'm going to send it along with a batch to ICG for grading, variety attribution and authentication. I am so happy to have one of these! I love the Draped Bust design - I have a few lower grade half-cents and a large cent, but this is, by far, the nicest of my Draped Bust coins. Any opinions on this coin would be appreciated and thoughts on the Draped Bust design in general. Pictures of yours? Love it or hate it or indifferent?
Glad you are happy! What a great piece of history. I would save the money sending it in use that money towards buying more coins. You can attribute it yourself with the help of http://maibockaddict.com/1806-draped-bust-half-dollars.shtml.
Congratulations on your first draped bust half dollar. Really a beautiful design. I agree, though, that you should save your money and instead of paying to have it in a details holder, use the funds for another coin purchase. It's obviously cleaned/polished, I have a 1799 dollar in similar shape and enjoy it raw.
This is one of the easiest die marriages in the series to attribute as there is only one DM which has the pointed 6 and no stem through the claw on the reverse. Save your money to buy more half dollars.
Dang a Draped Bust dollar . I have a couple of Draped Bust halves but no dollar . I agree with ksparrow . Save your money and put it in a intercept shield or other hard holder . Nice piece of history ! I also love it’s a no stem variety . I’m looking for one in a half dollar .
It's a little too marked up and cleaned up for me, but any Draped Bust silver coin is a welcome addition to a collection. Here is one that's in an AU-58 holder. It was graded AU-50 when I bought it in a major auction in the mid 1970s.
