i stopped by the ceremony at Moravia, NY that day here is a couple pics of that day. The person with the microphone is the US Mint's Deputy Director Andy Brunhart giving the closing remarks. THe bucket on the table contained the coins that they dumped on the table for the finale. i wondered if anyone saw Danica Patrick's pic in the background. Well, i did :thumb:
I have yet to come across a single presidential dollar other than as change in the subway and train station in the almost 4 years the program has been in effect.
That's acually a decent portrait as prez dollars go, and with a name like that I better pick up a few. Kind of reminds me of the Smuckers commecials, "with a name like Smucker's, it has to be good".
Got 4 rolls of MF at the bank today. I opened up one roll to spend and I was surprised they were D mint (i'm in the midwest). They were also quite beat up for coins fresh from a roll. The roll I opened I spent: 8 at Subway - the lady said "I'll take them, but the bank hates getting them back" 5 at the gas station - youngish gal asked the other guy "can I take these" 9 at the mini mart - owners kid "cool, presidential dollars!"
I send my son to school with dollar coins for lunch money each day. Where does everybody else spend their Presidential/Native American dollars?
You might want to start a new thread for this. I know there have been several other threads already open to focus on that topic alone.
Which begs the question, why doesn't the lady give them out as change rather than taking them to the bank??? Seriously, some people.... :headbang: Our vending machines at work takes and gives these coins back, so they're quite common there. I've managed to build up my collection and that's where I found the two of Fillmore.
Not to derail this topic too much, but I spend these dollars every where, including halves. I try my hardest to get these into circulation where I live.
are you getting the halves from the bank then spending them? the halves from the mint are sold at a premium so those I would not circulate at face value.
