It's actually still possible and even for much less then that!!a decent amount of silver eagles have sold for a few bucks on the bay with positive feedback.
Yeah, isn't it funny how the past is always the good old days? I remember collecting in the 70's and all the dealers talking about the good old days of when good coins were found in circulation in the 1950s. In the 90s people talked about the good old days when silver and buffalos and tons of wheat cents were found in circulation in the 70's. Today we talk about the good old days when scarcer silver eagles could be bought for $7. Not making fun OP, saying the "good old days" are today versus the future, always. For ancients, I wish I would have bought tons more when they were more available 20 or 10 years ago. Buy what you can when you can, and always know that today will be the good old days 20 years from now, and most likely you will have bought the wrong things anyway. Enjoy the hobby and enjoy the ride.
Well, you tore that out of a magazine an kept it, but did you order a few back then? Would have been worth it, wouldn't it have? LOL
Think about it: if you can sell coins, why not the American Historical Society of Central Islip, New York? For them, then, it was a marketing campaign designed to increase membership (customers).
