Yes its within the mints tolerance of rotation and Very slight. I mean you don’t come across them often anyways so enjoy, search those denvers. Could be a dynamic rotation who knows.
It’s still slightly rotated got my best to have the Obv as centered liberty is pretty straight I’ll reverse it with the shield pointing down and flip it tm
I think Fred Weinberg mentioned that 15 degrees was the mint tolerance (can someone confirm that). Your coin is well within that range
Yes that’s why I stated in my original post “it’s within the mints tolerance” But I mean even at that how often does one come across a more modern coin 2010 and on with a in tolerance rotation not me so I still consider it collectible
How often? It happens all the time in every shield date so far (13 years). It’s a very common occurrence. Heck, save well struck coins all you want. Just don’t think a reverse rotation of 1 degree is a collectable criteria.
I only search shield cents coming across any degree of rotation nope not common I know there are extreme rotations for a lot of dates 2016, 2011, 2019 etc the amount of times I’ve searched shields I’ve come across two rotations now three Let’s compare to memorial cents which r muchhhh more common even if it’s within tolerance and this is a denver so it’s not as common I’ve never come across a in tolerance rotation on a shield cent that’s denver and let’s forget the mints in tolerance anyways for rotations it’s not common it’s scarce In short still a rotation of the die on a shield cent being a denver.
Since it's in specification, it's manufacturing variability. I consider this in the same category as minor planchet weight variation, mechanical doubling, and die deterioration. It's hard to get excited over a normal, standard coin. Save them if you like them. Technically, I can't disagree with you using the term rotated die, but it feels wrong since it's in spec. Almost like hyping minor errors like IN GOD WE RUST, or Spitting Eagles, IMO. At least those are actual errors. Just my opinion
Ah ok reading this comment it makes more sense to me relating it to md etc. guess I’m biased a little, I do like the extreme md on shield cents for educational purposes.
The above says it all. That's all that matters. However, once you post publicly about your 'collectible' you should be prepared for the naysayers to challenge your opinion. FYI, I'm in agreement with everyone else. It's within tolerance and less than 'ever so slight'. Enjoy your find.
Official US Mint tolerance is 27 degrees. They are not collectable, I've found, unless they are at least 45 degrees rotated. Hope this info helps.
You have a brand new 2022-D shield zinc cent, with contact marks on both sides and soap spots. The reverse die rotation is minor, no added value (NAV). If you put it in a flip to protect it, sometime around the year 2072 it will finally appreciate in value. I applaud your vision of the future, saving this coin and similar to pass on to your progeny. But, perhaps this coin has special meaning to you. That would be another good reason to collect it.
